Rubbish & Recycling

We’ve tried to keep things simple, but Tassie does love a good recycling rule. Here’s how to manage your waste while you’re here.

General Waste

  • Use the red-lidded bin for household rubbish
  • Please bag your rubbish and tie bags securely before placing in the bin

Recycling

  • Use the yellow-lidded bin for clean recyclables
  • Rinse all containers before placing them in
  • Accepted: clean paper and cardboard, glass bottles and jars, plastic containers (1–7), aluminium and steel cans
  • Not accepted: soft plastics, food scraps, nappies, clothing, batteries

Bin Location

Both bins are located at the side of the house on the path between the house and the clothes line

Collection Day

Bins are collected early on Monday mornings. We'll take care of putting them out, but please use the correct bins during your stay.

Septic System Reminder

We’re on a septic system, so please don’t flush wipes, sanitary products or anything other than toilet paper. Even “flushable” wipes can cause damage.

Container Refund Scheme (CRS)

  • A separate CRS tub is provided for eligible drink containers.
  • Most plastic bottles, cans, cartons and small glass bottles between 150ml–3L are accepted.
  • Please make sure containers are empty, uncrushed, and lids removed.
  • Not eligible: wine bottles, milk bottles, large juice bottles, coffee cups, water cartons over 1L.

Anything you pop in here helps - our kids take care of the recycling, and the refund goes straight into their pocket money for jobs around the property. It’s their way of being part of The Basalt Stay, and your way of helping them along.
