Heating & Cooling — Daikin Heat Pumps

Our home is kept comfortable with two Daikin reverse-cycle heat pumps — one in the living area and one in the main bedroom. They’re simple to use once you know the symbols, and they work best when left to run steadily rather than switched on and off.

How heat pumps work
Unlike old-style heaters or air-conditioners that blast hot or cold air quickly, heat pumps are designed to gently and efficiently hold the room at a steady temperature. They draw warmth from outside air in winter and move heat out in summer — a bit like a fridge working in reverse. This means they don’t feel instant, but give them time and they’ll keep things consistently comfortable.

Controls (remote)

• On/Off: Power button
• Mode:
  • ☀️ Sun symbol = Heating (winter)
  • ❄️ Snowflake = Cooling (summer)
  • 🌬️ Fan symbol = Air circulation only
  • 💧 Droplet = Dry/dehumidify
• Temperature:
  • Winter: set 20–22°C for comfort
  • Summer: set 23–25°C
  • Setting too high/low makes the unit less efficient and can trip the system
• Fan Speed: Use the Fan button. Auto is usually best.
• Swing: Controls airflow direction (up/down).

Tips for best use

• Close doors and windows while it runs — it works with the air inside, not against the outdoors.
• Be patient — it won’t heat or cool instantly, but it will hold the room at temperature gently and efficiently.
• Leaving it on a moderate setting is better than constantly switching off/on.
• Extra blankets and pillows are in the wardrobes of both queen rooms if you’d like more warmth at night.
